Sequins and Sparkles and Heels, Oh My!
The end of the year is upon us. Normally, I end the year with a fabulous party full of beautiful people. This year is going to be different. This year, there is no NYE plan, no party, no big shabang. This year I will spend the evening in my home with my family, in our pjs, ringing in the new year, probably from the comfort of my bed. And while not being “out” will be different, it is not bad. Because I have lived this entire year like it was New Year’s Eve! Over the course of this past year, I have gone to the most interesting events, toasted to the most interesting people, and worn some of the most interesting combinations. I want to share with you the three rules that I have lived by when getting ready for an event; they may be useful to you as you prepare for your NYE.
#1. More is more. The whole world is bent on convincing women that we should be restrained, conservative, muted. And that is fine if that is who you are organically. But there is a lot of fun to be had exploring a little more. Got a sparkly necklace and a pearl necklace and can’t choose which one to wear? Put ‘em both on! Hell, put it all on! As long as you have balance between your pieces, you can wear as much of whatever as you want. So throw on an extra piece of jewelry, some dramatic lashes, and a gorgeous headpiece. More is more!
#2. Mix it up. The biggest lie anybody ever told us is that some things ‘go together” and some things don’t. Let me tell you, one thing I have learned is that some of the most beautiful, inspiring, and arresting combinations come from putting together things that seemingly “don’t match”. Mix textures, mix prints, play with hem lengths. Life is more interesting when you mix it up.
#3. Get your shine on. You might not believe it, but there is always a reason to shine. Even on your most casual day, sequins are always appropriate. Each of us is born with a light to shine, and sequins and crystals help us get the job done. If sequins aren’t a part of your wardrobe, they should be. Go by yourself some sequin something, whether you need it or not your closet will thank me later.
So these are the rules I used when I got ready to hit the streets this year. And even though I am not gonna be in the streets this NYE, I have shared some of my favorite holiday looks I created this year using these rules. Here’s hoping you find a little inspiration to think outside the box a bit and have a little fun with your wardrobe. Thank you for all of your support this year and know that I wish you all the happiness this new year can hold!
Stay Fabulous, Lovelies!💋
